Washington D.C. – Nov. 27, 2006–
Merlin International, one of the nation’s fastest growing federal IT solutions providers, announced it has secured a blanket purchase agreement (BPA) with the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) to provide all Symantec Corporation software and services. This includes the installation and maintenance of all Symantec security software, including antivirus, anti-spam, early warning solutions, as well as firewall and adware protection. This represents Merlin’s 19th contract vehicle win and has an annual value that will exceed $2 million in maintenance and implementation costs.
This agreement with the DOI, which encompasses nine agencies including the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is part of an overall government initiative to enhance the security of sensitive information. The Merlin-deployed Symantec solutions enable the DOI to preserve the integrity of its information while maintaining prompt response rates to potential security threats.
The DOI Symantec Enterprise Agreement includes an enterprise license for the Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition for the entire agency. In addition, it also provides a Blanket Purchase Agreement allowing the bureaus to take advantage of pre negotiated costs on Symantec products.
The recent increase in transparency has increased the need for government agencies to employ the most sophisticated security possible,” said John Trauth, executive vice president of government systems, Merlin International. “The Department of the Interior has been proactive in its effort to increase security and Symantec’s solutions for protecting sensitive data and interactions will allow them to manage security needs in a way that best fits the organization.”
Merlin’s Professional Services team will work with key departmental staff to implement and manage the security software, enabling the DOI to maintain an increased awareness of its security capabilities and help avoid the loss of important information through viral attacks such as network worms, viruses, Trojans and other malicious programs.
The products covered in this BPA include Symantec Anti-Virus Enterprise Edition software which provides the department security, availability, and integrity of their information. Using Symantec’s data and system protection, the DOI will be able to recover faster from system failures or viral attacks. Firewalls will ensure protection from viruses and network intrusions. Intrusion protection will allow the DOI to regulate and prevent the use of prevent inappropriate use of its information systems. Overall, the applications will focus on securing increasingly sensitive online interactions, such as financial transactions and cross-departmental information, as well as increasingly malicious threats and crimeware.
The Department of the Interior is the nation's principal conservation agency. It is responsible for the protection of America’s natural resources, including fish and wildlife, as well as land and water. The department also maintains relationships with Native American populations as well as preserves the cultural and natural heritage of the United States. The DOI manages one out of every three acres of land in the U.S. and provides 31 million Americans with power through their network of 820 dams and reservoirs.
